Menopause
- Women are not prepared and experience lack of communication and support, feel isolated and face shame around the topic.
- Peri- and menopausal women may have persistent and bothersome symptoms that impact QoL.
- Bone density decreases with menopause which puts women at risk for osteoporosis.
Uterine Fibroids
- Despite 25% to 50% of women with fibroids being symptomatic, uterine fibroids (UF) are likely undiagnosed and undertreated due to lack of awareness, societal stigma around menstruation, and the uncertainty of normal bleeding.
- There is a 3.6 year delay in diagnosis after symptom onset.
- 41% visited at least two healthcare providers before diagnosis.
- US studies show women with UF feel sad, discouraged and hopeless and express feelings of helplessness regarding their ability to manage their fibroids.
Endometriosis
- 6 out of 10 women are undiagnosed.
- Women with endometriosis (EM) experience delays of 4-11 years from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and see an average of seven doctors.
- Delays in diagnosis can result in prolonged discomfort, increased sensitivity to pain and reduced QoL.
Migraine
- Migraine is 3x more prevalent in women than men and is the leading cause of disability among women of reproductive age (15-49 years) worldwide.
- Women with migraine experience more comorbidities, more frequent and more intense headache, more migraine triggers, and greater headache disability than men.
- Migraine can be triggered by fluctuations in hormones, affecting women throughout their lifetime, varying in frequency and burden with hormonal changes. More than 60% of women of reproductive age report an association between their migraine attacks and menstruation.
- Many women with migraine report that they delay having children, have fewer children, or choose not to have children because of migraine.
